About
If the map is the past, the drawing is the future. A map is an image that compresses what is seen in reality into symbols, and a drawing is a symbol image that designs future ideals. Han Jung-won has been working on based on drawings since 2004. For the artist, drawings are not just a collection of symbolic images, but a symbolic aggregate of human history and culture. As he said, "The drawings sometimes sound like a roar," the drawings concentrate on the accumulated human experience so far, values for a better life, human ethical awareness, convenience, and aesthetic aspects.
The long-standing drawing work of Han Jung-won has three eye-catching characteristics. They are "borrowing of urban drawing images," "overlapping of various images," and "the emergence of lines that create flow." The artist borrowed urban drawings from his experience of studying landscape architecture and working as a landscape designer before working as an artist. And the overlap of images is due to the mechanism of engraving at the center of his artistic experiment. Through the mechanism of engraving, the artist expresses the time before the city was formed, the time it was formed, the time it changed little by little, and the traces (wounds, events) left by that time repeatedly overlapping. In the work, 'lines that create flow' are related to human desire for movement, and not only are they revealed as indirect lines that symbolize 'road', but also as expressions that emit the flow of 'energy' by expressing the artist's physical behavior as a direct line.
